Building the AI infrastructure for African languages

We are creating the building blocks for a future where African languages are not left behind in the age of AI.

Mission

NovaxAI Lab is building the foundational AI infrastructure for every African language, ensuring that no community is excluded from the future of artificial intelligence because of the language they speak.

Approach

Our work begins with Sierra Leonean languages such as Krio, Mende, Temne, Limba, Loko, Kono, Fula, Susu, and Yalunka, while extending to the more than 2,000 languages spoken across Africa.

Research focus

We are developing datasets, speech technologies, multilingual language models, translation systems, and AI tools for education, healthcare, commerce, and government.

Roadmap

From Sierra Leone to West Africa and then across the continent, the long-term goal is to build Africa's first comprehensive multilingual speech and language AI ecosystem.

Vision

A pan-African language AI ecosystem, starting with Krio

The long-term goal is to build Africa's first comprehensive multilingual speech and language AI ecosystem, spanning Automatic Speech Recognition, Text-to-Speech, translation, large language models, multimodal AI, conversational agents, and accessibility tools for African communities.
